Late last night, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association announced a tentative agreement on a new six-year deal. The details of the agreement were not released. The agreement must now be ratified by both parties.

The Acting Secretary had been meeting with the parties this week to help them reach a deal.

President Biden also issued a statement on the announced deal. Not only did the President commend the Acting Secretary for helping the parties, but he also stated, “Above all I congratulate the port workers, who have served heroically through the pandemic and the countless challenges it brought, and will finally get the pay, benefits, and quality of life they deserve.”
